Mezzo-soprano Suzanna Guzmán is an Emmy Award-winning TV host, radio host, and one of the directors of award-winning The Opera Company (TOC) at LACHSA. For over 30 years, Suzanna has appeared as a principal artist with orchestras and opera houses around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, Washington National Opera, Dallas Opera, Opera de Genéve, San Diego Opera, and LA Opera - where she holds the record for the number of roles performed by a female principal artist: 39 productions over 400 shows.

Recent highlights include performing Donna Rosa in Catan’s Il Postino with Opera Santa Barbara, the world-premiere of Eric Whitacre’s Gift of the Magi with the L.A. Master Chorale, and Marcellina in the 12-hour, nonstop Bliss by Ragnar Kjartansson with the LA Philharmonic Fluxus Festival. A champion of new music, Suzanna appeared in The Industry’s acclaimed "mobile opera" Hopscotch and has created premieres in lead roles in works by Michael Nyman, Daniel Catán, Giancarlo Menotti, Ian Krouse, and in Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking. Among her many honors, she has received an Emmy Award for the LA County Holiday Celebration (PBS), a Grammy nod for Best Classical Recording, the Helen Hayes Award best actress nomination, an honorary Ph.D. from Occidental College, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Nederlander Association, and Mentor of the Year from the Hispanic Scholarship Foundation. For the Music Center Education Division, her one-woman show Don’t Be Afraid! It’s Just Opera! has been performed for over 200,000 inner-city students nationwide.
